Increasing Engagement & Reach On Facebook

Feel like you are not getting much engagement or reach on Facebook?

In this week’s training, learn 5 action steps you can implement to improve your engagement & reach.

How Facebook Engagement & Reach Works

In order to get the result of more engagement & reach, we must first understand how the Facebook algorithm works.

Once we understand what happens when we post, then, it’s easier to create engagement & reach.

In the world of social media, it’s all about giving to get.

We first must satisfy the needs of the platform for our own needs to be met.

So what happens when you post?

When you post, Facebook then does 4 Actions.

THE FOUR ACTIONS OF FACEBOOK

  • Inventory
  • Signals
  • Predictions
  • Score

First, when you post Facebook takes inventory of what type of content you have posted.

Is it news feed material, story, reel, group content, etc?

Facebook then takes note of the people who like that type of content that you are personally connected with.

Second, Facebook takes note of signals like the time you posted the content & other small details like how fast the internet connection of those who are available to view the content.

Third, Facebook makes predictions of who would be most likely to engage with your content based on their previous actions.

Lastly, Facebook uses scores to determine who is most interested in your post.

Then Facebook shows your content to a handful of its best viewers based on all the above information for your content.

Engagement & Reach Secrets

There is a reason it’s called social media.

In the social media space, we have to give socialization in order to get reach & engagement.

This means we actually have a pretty big hand in who sees our content.

The more we socialize with the connections (friends, group members, etc) we have on social media before we post, the more data Facebook has to create more reach & engagement for our content organically.

However, if you do not desire to be a social person, it may be better for you to spend tons of money on targeted ads so that Facebook can use that data instead.

5 Steps To Create More Engagement & Reach

  1. Engage With Other’s Content
  2. Create Engagement Content
  3. Socialize In The DM’s
  4. Share Your Content
  5. Delete Inactive Connections

First, Engage With Other’s Content

Be mindful of the people you are engaging with.

You don’t want to engage with the same 5 people over & over because that’s all the data Facebook will have limiting who sees your posts.

Get intentional about engaging with your ideal prospects’ content so that they can see yours.

Second, Create Content Specifically For Engagement Purposes

This can be a question that gets people talking or it can be some type of attraction marketing content like a quote your ideal clients would resonate with.

The intention here is SPECIFICALLY to get them to engage with the content by liking or commenting.

The more engagement it has, the more Facebook sees it as valuable & interesting content.

Facebook then shows it to more people that you are connected with thus giving you more reach & the potential for more engagement which means more data to use for your next post.

Third, Socialize In The DM’s.

This does not mean cold pitch.

It means taking a few minutes of your time to intentionally get to know people & find the common ground to form a relationship.

Think of it like being in a restaurant & the person at the next table has the exact same shirt on but they are a complete stranger.

You’d say something like, “I love your shirt. Cool to connect with another such & such fan. I’m Danielle. What’s your name?” just to strike up a conversation.

Remember, some of these conversations are just to increase even more data for your algorithm so that they can see your business posts & decide for themselves if they are interested.

Then when you post work-related content, you will have more data for Facebook to do its job of sharing that content with the right people.

If you have socialized with the right people, then your content should begin to get engagement & create even more reach.

If not, don’t fret & keep trying.

Plus, the DM’s is a great place to let people know of new content you think they might like but always ask if they would like you to share it with them.

This is where value marketing of helping them for free comes into play.

Fourth, Share Your Own Content

Sharing your own content boosts it back to the top of the algorithm pile but into different inventory categories.

This allows different people to see it based on the type of content it is.

For example, those who prefer stories to scrolling the newsfeed.

Lastly, Delete Inactive Connections

Whether you are growing your group or your friend list be sure to periodically take a few minutes to delete inactive accounts that are no longer in use or have not engaged with your content for a period of time.

This allows the data to be more concise with whom your content is available to be shown.

Take note, Facebook uses artificial intelligence so it just takes the data that we give it & sometimes it actually needs conscious intelligence to assist it for it to perform its best.

CONCLUSION

There are lots of factors that go into the algorithm to increase your reach & engagement.

Don’t forget the time of day you post, how many people are on Facebook at that time & their connection speed, plus many other factors that play a role in who sees your content each time you post.

This is where the right profile optimizations, market research, & insights (analytics) can also come in handy for your business.

The key here is the consistency of action without being attached to a result.

Just keep trying & always remember the algorithm may not always be in your favor, but, you have the ability to also share your own content at different times & in different places to also increase the percentage of it being seen.

Also note, this is why Passion Profit CEO suggests you have a long-term marketing strategy & a short-term marketing strategy.

Short-term marketing strategies are short-lived just like the algorithm.

If you want a $100k+ business in 20 hours a week be sure to also focus marketing efforts on strategies that live long-term so that you can get new clients while you live your life.
